Briefs and initial ideas

Group
In my group of four there is me, Tommy Brading, Emily Rawles and Brooke Spencer. In this group  we will complete both our preliminary task, and also our main task as a group. We all know each other and our good friends so we will work well together and the tasks should be completed to a good standard.

Brief

Initial ideas

Our initial idea for our preliminary task is a business meeting between me and Tommy Brading where we discus the correct cost of the chocolate bars called "Freddos" and arrange a reasonable price for which they can be sold at.

Our initial idea for our main task has been inspired by the film "The Woman in Black" and our group member, Emily Rawles will play the part of the ghost. One part of our 2 minute clip will be opening titles and then it will go to a scene of a wedding where you will see Emily get her throat cut, by Tommy so you get the back-story, then it will switch to a scene where later on you see Tommy just living his life however Emily has no come back to haunt him.

Camera shots

Camera shots

 Extreme close up

This is an Extreme close up, this is where the camera is so close to the characters head that their face takes up the whole screen and you can see no background space. This is used to express the emotions on a characters face during because it is close enough to make all characteristics on the face shown so you can see the characters emotions.

Close up

This is a close up, it is almost the same as a extreme close up, except you can also see some background space as well as the characters face, this has the same effect as the extreme close up, however it is more used because extreme close ups because extreme close ups are used when all the director wants to focus on is the emotions.

Medium close up

This is a medium close up; this is where the camera is taking a shot of the character and all you can see is the character from the shoulder upwards and this shows the character and the background. This is usually used when focusing on a main character or scene.

Mid shot

This is a mid-shot, this is where you can see the character from only the waist upwards in the shot. This is usually used when focusing on a main character or scene but it also allows the background to be visible.

Medium long shot

This is a medium long shot, this is where you can see the character from the knees upwards. This is very similar to the mid shot and This is usually used when focusing on a main character but also allows the background to be shown

Long shot

This is a long shot, this is where you can see a characters full body and also a lot of background, this is so the setting can be set and you can see all of the surroundings. This is effective because it can be used to show things to the audience that the characters couldn’t see.

Extreme long shot

This is an extreme long shot, this is where you can see a characters body, similar to the long shot. However the camera is further away so there is more background aswell. This is effective because it shows off the setting and is good for showing the surroundings

Two shot

This is a two shot, this is where you can see two characters in a shot at the same time. This is usually used during a main or important scene. This could be used to introduce multiple characters together and using a two shot would be more effective.

High angle shot

This is a high angle shot, this is where the camera is taking the shot from a higher point than the characters and it is angled downwards towards the characters. Usually this is used to make a character seem weaker to others.

Over the shoulder

This is a over the shoulder shot, this is where the camera is taking a shot from over another characters shoulder and you can see both the characters, it is usually used in conversations.

Low angle shot and Point of view

This is a point of view shot and also a low angled shot, a point of view shot is where the camera is placed as if you are one of the characters and a low angled shot is where the camera is lower than the characters and is angled upwards towards them. This can also be used to make characters look stronger.

Titled shot

This is a tilted shot, this Is where the camera is taking a shot, however it is tilted or turned sideways partly and is quite disorientating as it is angled differently.

Editing

Editing

-Shot reverse shot

A shot reverse shot is where the camera will be on one person as they are speaking then when the other begins to speak the camera straight cuts to them and then when the other person begins to speak again it does the same again.

-Straight cut

A straight cut is where the scene changes from one to another without any fancy effects and its usually not noticed.

-Fade in/out

A fade in or out is where the scene appears or changes opacity slowly from nothing to max so it goes from not visible to visible.

-Dissolve

A dissolve is where the scene changes by slowly disintegrating bit by bit until eventually there is nothing left. Similar to a fade in and out however it is usually a slower edit.

-Montage

A montage is a group of clips or scenes put together and then played as one scene.

-Transition

A transition is similar to a straight cut however during the scene change you can add more effects like fade from black and so on.
