Camera shots
Extreme close up
This is an Extreme close up, this is where the camera is so close to the
characters head that their face takes up the whole screen and you can see no
background space. This is used to express the emotions on a characters face
during because it is close enough to make all characteristics on the face shown
so you can see the characters emotions.
Close up
This is a close up, it is almost the same as a extreme close
up, except you can also see some background space as well as the characters
face, this has the same effect as the extreme close up, however it is more used
because extreme close ups because extreme close ups are used when all the
director wants to focus on is the emotions.
Medium close up
This is a medium close up; this is where the camera is
taking a shot of the character and all you can see is the character from the
shoulder upwards and this shows the character and the background. This is
usually used when focusing on a main character or scene.
Mid shot
This is a mid-shot, this is where you can see the character
from only the waist upwards in the shot. This is usually used when focusing on
a main character or scene but it also allows the background to be visible.
Medium long shot
This is a medium long shot, this is where you can see the
character from the knees upwards. This is very similar to the mid shot and This
is usually used when focusing on a main character but also allows the
background to be shown
Long shot
This is a long shot, this is where you can see a characters
full body and also a lot of background, this is so the setting can be set and
you can see all of the surroundings. This is effective because it can be used
to show things to the audience that the characters couldn’t see.
Extreme long shot
This is an extreme long shot, this is where you can see a
characters body, similar to the long shot. However the camera is further away
so there is more background aswell. This is effective because it shows off the
setting and is good for showing the surroundings
Two shot
This is a two shot, this is where you can see two characters
in a shot at the same time. This is usually used during a main or important
scene. This could be used to introduce multiple characters together and using a
two shot would be more effective.
High angle shot
This is a high angle shot, this is where the camera is
taking the shot from a higher point than the characters and it is angled
downwards towards the characters. Usually this is used to make a character seem
weaker to others.
Over the shoulder
This is a over the shoulder shot, this is where the camera
is taking a shot from over another characters shoulder and you can see both the
characters, it is usually used in conversations.
Low angle shot and Point of view
This is a point of view shot and also a low angled shot, a
point of view shot is where the camera is placed as if you are one of the
characters and a low angled shot is where the camera is lower than the
characters and is angled upwards towards them. This can also be used to make
characters look stronger.
Titled shot
This is a tilted shot, this Is
where the camera is taking a shot, however it is tilted or turned sideways
partly and is quite disorientating as it is angled differently.
